  Protecting Your Domain Names

When you are first selecting a name for your domain it is a good idea to try to find one that has not been taken in all of the appropriate (and some of the inappropriate!) TLD's (Top Level Domains).

In particular for businesses it is a good idea to register your domain name in both the .com and .net TLD's so that you can protect your Local Area Network (LAN) using the .net TLD.

For non-businesses it is a good idea to register both .org (appropriate) and .com (inappropriate) to provide users with a fast route to your site even if they forget you are an organization rather than a commercial enterprise.
